Females can reach up to 23 inches long and move to offshore waters during the breeding season. Larval flounders don’t pursue their prey actively. They just lie and wait for small fish or shrimp and as they stay in the bottom of oceans they pounce on these fish easily as they move by. Due to this habit, many flounders like to concentrate in good ambush areas. That is why they are also called “ambush predators”.
